High Lane Home Watch Message  November 2006

The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:-

A card is posted through your door from a company called  PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on
0306 6611911 (a premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk or your local trading standards office.   This is a genuine scam and is under investigation by ICSTISs

High Lane Home Watch Message  August 2006

Glenys Patterson has now returned to her job as Homewatch Administrator after 6 months leave.  We should soon receive our regular updates from her on crime in Stockport East Area.  In the meantime here is an update from the High Lane Police Liaison Group that meets every 5 weeks.

CRIME UPDATE :-
There have been 2 burglaries in High Lane over the past few weeks, both occurred during the day – one house burglary, entry through an insecure ground floor window and the other was the theft of a mower from a garden shed with entry through an insecure side gate.

There had been an attempted burglary at the “Bulls Head” but the burglar had fled when the alarm was activated.

The post box in Alderdale Drive had been damaged by fire.

Very few incidents of antisocial behaviour have been reported over the past 2 months.  The only persistent problem has been the throwing of eggs where specific houses appear to have been targeted.  The police have been informed but need the help of residents who may be able to offer a description or name a suspect. Contact the police on 0161 872 5050 or pass on the information to PCSO James Taberner if you can help.

In the autumn, a new hotline number will be launched for reporting any anti-social problems – drinking alcohol in the streets, mini-motorbikes/scooters, cars on parkland, egging, fireworks, etc. – details to follow

Residents reported that cars had been broken into in and around Langdale Close overnight on 16th August.  Some articles from the cars were found in nearby gardens.  Advice from the police is not to leave anything on view overnight in a vehicle, even a pullover can lead to a potential thief thinking there may be something of interest hidden underneath.

The inconsiderate and illegal parking of vehicles on pavements is also causing concern throughout the village.   Feel free to report persistent offenders to the police on 0161 872 5050, or our PCSO.

Yellow-line and waiting restriction parking offences should be reported to the Council’s Parking Team on 0161 474 4926, by Fax to 0161 474 4833 or Email at parking@stockport.gov.uk

Remember to report anything suspicious to the police and/or your Home Watch Coordinator.
