The Reading Group was envisaged by Sue Dintinger as a Literature Group which would cover a wide spectrum.
We meet once a month at Sue Dintinger's house usually at 10am on the second Wednesday.
New members are welcome, come along and join us.

The reading group has read -
"The Dream of Scipio" by Iain Peers.
Set in Provence at three crucial periods of civilisation in The West: the collapse of the Roman Empire in the 5th century, the Black Death in the 14th century and the second world war in the 20th century.
It follows the fortunes of three men.
In November we read "Old Filth" by Jane Gardam; a delightful story of his life from being a Raj Orphan (mother died at his birth and his father rejected him). Fostered in Wales and educated in the UK.
He had a loveless marriage with no children - quite a sad life really. The story jumps forwards and backwards through the glory days of the British Empire, first and second world wars to to the present.
A combination of sadness, compassion and humour. A good read in my opinion.
I was fortunate enough to read a second book, "The Invisible Wall" written by a ninety-seven year old by the name of Harold Bernstein. He now lives in the USA but was brought up in Stockport, in Brook Street off King Street and Daw Bank. He lived in a Jewish household whilst on the other side of the street lived the Christian families
A moving story of the times - hardship, suspicions, love and customs set prior to the first world war and onwards. Hence the title, until a Christian man and a Jewish girl marry.
A nice piece of social history.
In December we read "The Uncommon Reader" by Alan Bennett, The Uncommon Reader being the Queen.
A series of murders and people disapearing (not to be taken seriously)a kind of who done it. The detective rather reminded me of Humphrey Bogart playing one of his detective rolls but somehow gone wrong.
It was an easy read but not one I would read again.
In February we read a book by Ian McEwan the title is "On Chesil Beach". A very moving and emotional story about a honeymoon couple, innocent, and struggling with their fears of the wedding night to come. Well worth reading, beautifully written.
The Reading Group have just read "Mr. Pip" by Lloyd Jones.
It is cleverly written, and appears to be narrated through the eyes of a child. It takes place on a war torn island in the South Pacific.
An elderly white gentleman reads "Great Expectations" to a group of village children. The book gets lost and the soldiers are looking for Mr. Pip as they think he is a spy. Mr.Pip cannot be found for obvious reasons.
Why not read the book and see what happens?!!! An easy read and enjoyable.
