Theatre Matinee Club

The Theatre Matinee Group

The group was formed 6 years ago by a few members from the three U3A branches existing at that time, those being Romiley, Marple and High Lane.
At the beginning of 2004 a new U3A branch was formed to cover Marple Bridge and Mellor. This new branch then became part of the Matinee Group.

Our aim is to provide theatre outings and transport without the strain and  worry of booking individually. This helps those who do not wish to go on their own and those unable to use public transport. Members are free to use public transport but a coach is provided with a number of convenient pick up points.

The Group is non profit making, as our only aim is to cover our costs. What we may gain on one trip goes to cover a loss on a subsequent one. We have 6 members on our committee. One member books the coaches and the rest circulate the task of booking the tickets. It is a group decision where we go but we aim to cater for all tastes from comedy and drama to ballet and opera.

In 2005, for the first time, we organised a trip to The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. This was successful and so we organised another trip in August last year.
